Batwatch
On Friday 21st May 1999 we went to Moor House for a Bat
Watch. When we got there we went into the training room to see some slides,
there was a man also giving a talk about the different kinds of bats which
were shown on the different slides. He told us about the different habitat's
and where you would expect to find the places where they roost.
As the evening went on we went outside to see if we could
see some bats. We waited quite a while before the bats came out, the first
bat we saw were the smallest they were called piperstral, it's whole body
length was only two inches and would easy fit into a match box. As the
night went on and it got darker and we saw hundreds of them.
The people who were in charge of the event had special machines which looked
like a small black box it picked up the sound of the bats before you saw
them, it sounded like a clicking noise. The whole evening was really could
and we learned a lot about all the different kinds of bats.
